Photonic Antimicrobial Wound Surface Dressing (PAWSD)

Currently available systems for applying antimicrobial blue light (aBL) are mostly investigational devices that are impractical for routine clinical use, and even less so for demanding far-forward conditions. This study proposes to develop and test novel materials that are flexible, moldable to fit the desired target area(s), and contain light–emitting optical fibers to form a textile dressing as a covering for infection-prone areas, such as wounds, amputation stumps, and osseointegrated implants, which we have termed the Photonic Antimicrobial Wound Surface Dressing (PAWS-Dressing).
